Professor Elana let go of her son and turned to Kumiko. "Yes, yes, of course dear. As you know, Pokemon are more than just creatures used for battle. They're out friends," she turned to walk to the back of the lab, taking her son's pokedex long enough to update it. She handed it back and then continued out the back door to the small pen where a single Mudkip, two Bulbasaur, and three Fennekin awaited them.
"Go ahead, Kumiko, and pick which Pokemon you'd like."
She turned to her son when he asked about his father.
"Oh, you know your father. He can't sit still, not even for a minute. He's out on route 1, researching Pokemon. Harima..."
She was worried about the Brinestein girl, certainly worried that she might find herself in bad company. She'd contacted the SWP the moment she'd gotten the call from Ryuu a month ago, but the girl was determined to handle this alone. She was going to get herself killed. She lowered her voice so only Harima could hear her while Kumiko decided on her Pokemon.
"I received a call last month from Ryuu Brinestein. You remember her father, don't you? He was a student of mine before taking up that optional gym in the Sinnoh Region? Her father's been captured by Team Rocket and she's on her way to go find him. I'm worried about her, Harima. If you find her, I'd like you to stick with her. Keep her from getting herself hurt. She has a legendary Pokemon with her. A Manaphy. From what I understand, her mother found it years ago. Why she brought it with her, I don't know, but she'd liable to get herself killed."

Finally the professor turned to giving her a starter pokemon. Kumiko followed to the three choices there were. "I know pokemon are our friends. It's always the trainers you have to watch out for. Heh."
When she heard Professor Elana's son ask her what type of pokemon she liked she had to think. It really depended on well appearance and well she liked ones that looked the strongest. But that wasn't the only thing, it depended on which pokemon she most likely becomes friends with quickly to help create a strong team. She liked all types except not a fan on using bug type pokemon. Plus she had difficulty with training grass type pokemon since well they are a bit weak in her eyes with battles. Kumiko looked over to the boy named Harima. "Well it all depends on the pokemon strength. I like many types however I stay away from grass and bug type mostly."
Glancing over the the three pokemon hearing which ones there were. She noticed none of the Fennekin's were taken. During her travels and over hearing rumors of this region that this was a fire type fox pokemon, she already had made her decision on the boat. Stepping foward to grab the pokeball holding a Fennekin inside. Tossed the pokeball showing a little fox pokemon appear, catching the pokeball. "This is who I will chose. Fennekin seems to be a good choice. And I shall name you Fenrir."
The male Fennekin yipped and jumped right into Kumiko's arms happy to have her as a friend and trainer. "Well aren't you a ball of energy."
Kumiko did notice that when she was sort of chosing that Professor Elana pulled her son to chat with him. Well guess they have alot of caughting up to do. However she couldn't leave yet. She needed her pokedex to be updated and well the usual lecture about pokemon along with direction from the professor. Yet glanced over to see that it seemed to be some serious discussion about something. However it sounded to mumbled.
Suddenly Fenrir jumped up, knocking Kumiko over licking her face. She was now on the floor of the lab laughing with a hyper Fenrir, laughing. "Hahah woah there. Ok I definately made a great choice with picking you. Lets do our best in battles and be great friends, alright?" She said to her fennekin which jumped off and yipped in agreement.

Harima watched with amusement as the new trainer went straight to where the fennikens were and picked up one of their pokeballs. "She says she like's strong pokemon. Well nothing's stronger than a fire-type. I knew should choose that one." he mumbled to himself. He was caught a little off gaurd when his mother started to explain something important to him in a hushed tone. Team Rocket....He had a few run ins with them while he was traveling in the Kanto region. "I see...Yeah i remember him. So Team Rocket is finally making their move huh? Good thing i kept a couple of my strongest pokemon with me. I understand mom i will catch up with her...." He paused thinking to himself 'If team rocket is gonna be flocking to this region then no trainer is safe alone' "Hey mom. I'm gonna take this new girl with me. It's no longer safe to travel alone."
Harima would listen to any other advice his mother would have for him while watching the tomboy playing with her new pokemon. It reminded him of when he first met his charmander. He could tell that these two would grow to become a strong team. "Hey, Kumiko right? I'm gonna be heading out to Route 1 soon. Would you mind tagging along at least to the next town. It's no fun traveling alone, plus we might run into my father who's doing some research out there." He pointed out trying to peak her interest enough to coax her to tag along. "Well give me your decision at the pokemon center when you're ready. I gotta get a few things before i head out."
Harima gave his mother one last hug before heading out. "Thank you mom for updating my pokedex for me. The next time you see me i will be the champion of this region!" He declared with a determined smile. Harima was in the pokemon centers mart within a few minutes purchasing the necessary pokeballs, hyper potions, and full heals he would need. "This should last me for at least the next two towns." He muttered as he took his seat. He decided he'd wait for the girl for a half hour. That should be enough time for her to have everything set.

The Professor nodded to her son and took Kumiko's pokedex as they headed back inside to update it for her. She bit her lip as she listened to her son offer to travel with the new girl. Well, once Kumiko's pokedex was done, she handed it back and wished her luck, then headed back to her office.
