It was hard to believe. Here she was, standing on the docks of the Touhoku Region. It'd been quite a few years since she competed in the contests here, only managing to place fourth in the Grand Finals. Still, a smile found itself growing on her face as she familiar smells of the seashore and cooking food filled her nostrils. That was the first thing she needed to take care of. Her Pokemon were hungry and Hi-kun was obviously queasy from the long ride over water. She would have put him in his Pokeball, but the Flareon had bristled his fur at the very suggestion two days ago. Oh well.
As she stepped off the boat, she waved to Eldritch. He'd been pretty cool about giving her a ride here, though he didn't run a passenger boat. She led Hi-kun off the dock and toward the boardwalk. A quick look at the buildings around her and she surmised the Pokemon Center was NOT located on the beach. Well....that's pretty obvious now that she thought about it.
"C'mon, Hi-kun," she called over her shoulder.
It didn't really take long to find the Pokemon Center once she hit town. This really was a one-horse town. Nothing like Veilstone City, which Ryuu had come to know like the back of her hand. She fodly remembered the half-hour drives from the ranch to the city with her dad and a sad smile washed over her face. The sliding doors of the Pokemon Center revealed the familiar face of one of the identicle members of the Joy family. Ryuu and her brother used to joke that the Joys and Jennys were some kind of monster that would assimilate innocent trainers into their ranks. Ryuu bit a lip, remembering the afternoon she, Phoenix, and their friend June had come up with the idea. Ryuu wondered if June and her dad knew that Ryuu's father was missing. She hoped not. Knowing June, the girl would come rushing in screaming "I'LL RESCUE HIM FOR YOU!!!". Ryuu thought about it a moment.
"Nah....she'd just find some way to blame it on Phoenix," Ryuu mused.
As she approached the counter, she pulled her pokeballs from her belt one by one. Nurse Joy gladly took them and led Hi-kun into the back for a check up while Ryuu paid a visit to the PokeMart to pick up some food for herself and her Pokemon. She placed an order for some bulk supplies and promised the cashier that she'd stop by later in the day to pick them up. She found a spot to sit and began going through her things, deciding what she needed to do first.
A pair of blue antennae poked out of the top of her bag as she pulled up the Touhoku Region map on her X-transciever, followed by the top of a head and a pair of eyes. The blue shape lept out of the bag and into Ryuu's lap, sending the bag and its contents to the floor.
"MAMA!!!" it cried.
Ryuu clamped a hand over its mouth. Luckily, it was pretty early and before the two or three people around her could get close enough to see the blue blob in her arms, she retrieved her bag from the floor and shoved the Pokemon back inside.
"Shhh, Manaphy," she whispered, "...it's not safe." She picked up her belongings from the floor and lifted the bag and Manaphy into her lap as she placed them back inside. She began to sing softly, lulling the Pokemon back to sleep.
Well, that's better. With her route planned, she picked up a bag of chips from the items she'd bought from the store and began to munch while she waited for her Pokemon.
Half an hour later and she was stepping back into the afternoon sun. She lifted a hand to cover her eyes as she scanned the surrounding area for Professor Elana's lab. When Ryuu had contacted the Professor three weeks ago, she'd been told a group similar to the ones who'd kidnapped her father were appearing around Russetstone City. Ryuu couldn't help but feel the slightest bit excited at the prospect of the Eevee-obsessed city. The festival was only two months away. She could make it there in time....right?
Hi-kun yipped at her, pulling her out of her daydream. She was standing right in front of the Professor's lab.
"I guess it's now or never, right, Hi-kun?" She pushed open the revolving door and stepped inside.
"Professor Elana?" she called.
"Ryuu, dear! I'm up here!" a voice called from above.
Ryuu lifted her eyes to the second floor, a make-shift floor of metal flooring and railings to keep one from falling off. Professor Elana waved enthusiastically before rushing to the stairs.
Professor Wilhemina Elana was a portly woman, short with wearing a lab coat over a light sun dress with a bow at the waist. Her heels helped her stand a little bit taller, but even with the two inch boost, she only made it to just below Ryuu's eye level. Ryuu watched as the woman pulled her messy greying-brown hair into a tight bun at the back of her head.
"Is it with you, dear?" Professor Elana asked.
"He's asleep in my bag....uh....is it safe here?" Ryuu asked.
"Of course, dear, of course. I had a meeting with a young trainer earlier, but she appears to be running late or to have changed her mind. Come, we can talk in my office."
Ryuu glanced back at the doorway and followed the Professor into another room. Once the door was locked, Ryuu opened her bag and scooped the blue blob up into her arms.
"He's not in a Pokeball?" the Professor asked.
Ryuu looked appalled. "I don't OWN him. He's my friend. I tried to leave him back in Sinnoh...but...he snuck into my bag as I was leaving." She recalled the tearful goodbye quite clearly. As she'd turned to hug her brother, Manaphy had taken the chance to sneak into her bag. He'd gotten quite good at unzipping it during their long afternoons walking back and forth between the ranch and Vaniville City.
"It's probably for the better. He's safer with you than alone in the ocean. Best keep him hidden. I have another appointment shortly. I've sent all the information I have on Team Rocket to your X-transciever. You also have my number should you need me. I'm sorry I can't be of more help dear. Can you spare the time to stay in town for a few days? I'd love to study your friendship with Manaphy," the Professor was rambling.
Ryuu smiled weakly. "I wish I could....but it wouldn't be safe."

Sunlight streamed in through the window, the familiar sound of Pidgeys singing drafting through the glass. Inside was a bundle of blankets, pink and white, curled up in a ball on a canopy bed with dramatic curtains giving a fairy- tale princess feeling. The walls of the room were a cool, pleasant green, covered in posters and photos, a lot of which featured a young girl with extremely wavy hair and bright pink eyes. A small television and game system sat on one side of the room, a simple desk on the other.
"Kai!"
A small groan emerged from the blanket, which started moving and, before long, it was revealed that the bundle concealed the very child in all the photographs.
The little girl sat up in bed, stretching her arms up in a dramatic yawn. Her mint- colored hair was a complete mess, tangled and sticking up from sleep. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, blinking in the sunlight that now assaulted her outside of her covers protection. Kai Ohime was definatly not a morning person and handles the time of day poorly.
"Kai! Did you forget what today was?"
The pair of pink eyes blinked towards the wall where a calendar hung. "Today is... Um... Wednesday..." [/font] Her high- pitched, child like voice cracked with the effect of sleep and, seemingly satisfied with her answer, she turned to lay back down. Then it clicked. Wednesday! The day shed been waiting for, the day she'd been dreaming of! "Holy cow, I'm late!" Kai jumped out of bed and threw on her favorite dress, a pretty brown thing with a bow on her chest. She grabbed a brush and forced it through the knots, sliding a pink headband in after it was somewhat tamed. Finally, she clasped her silver necklace around her neck before racing downstairs. Yelling a quick greeting to her family (which consisted of something along the lines of "Higuysgottagolateloveyoubye!") she rushed to the door. Before she could open it, however, a stern voice reprimanded her. "Late or not, you're not going anywhere until you've eaten." Kai let out a small whine and turned to see an older woman, her hair pulled back in a dignified bun. Her eyes were pink, like Kai's, although her hair had long turned grey. "But Grandmaaaa..."But it was pointless to argue with the Ohime matriarch, and soon Kai was sitting at the table, scarfing down a toaster pastry as quickly as possible. Beside her sat another girl, one with the same pink eyes but white hair, like their father. "Sis, you're getting you're first Pokemon today, right?" The girls eyes were wide with wonder, as her older sister smiled proudly. "That's right, Linny! Gonna get me the best partner ever, gonna go out there and become a champion!""Woooow..." After she was done eating and had finally escaped outside, Kai took a moment to admire the surroundings, the beautiful weather and the shore that was within sight. She had lots of memories of her family going to spend the day there. While everyone else played in the water or built sand castles, Kai had watched the Pokemon trainers getting off the boats. She would daydream for hours on end about when she would get her first Pokemon and start her own adventure and finally, the day was here! Without wasting anymore time she took off, running towards the famous laboratory. Professor Elana had told her to be there at a specific time. Which was not now. In fact it had been almost an hour and a half ago. Kai ran through the automatic door, her hair streaming behind her. She quickly looked around, trying to find the professor. When she didn't see her she rushed towards where she knew Elanas office was. Kai knocked on the door. "Professor! It's me, Kai! I'm sorry I'm late, I over slept! Um, again..."

"*cough*...Finally made it. Thanks, Relicanth." Hana breathed a somewhat drippy sigh of relief as he crawled up onto dry ground from the waters of Slateport Harbor. The 18-year-old young man's long, dark hair and black clothing were thoroughly soaked and dripping into a large puddle where he stood, and he could feel people giving him weird looks. But hey, it couldn't have been helped. He had spent a large portion of his time in the Hoenn region fishing the waters up and down in search of a rare Feebas, but with no luck. He had just about given up on ever finding one and was fully prepared to move on to another region. But then, just as he was getting ready to board the ship, he saw it. For an instant, he was certain he had seen a form bearing the distinctive coloring of Feebas break the surface of the bay right next to the dock, and he couldn't stop himself from practically diving in after it. Had Relicanth not been able to drag him back to dry land, he may have been in serious trouble. Fortunately though, his reckless endeavor had not gone unrewarded. The wild Feebas was at a relatively low level and had failed to resist the pull of his first Poké Ball. "Heh...just as planned," he muttered to himself. He knew Feebas would be an easy catch once he had actually found one. Not the most graceful capture of course, but sometimes you just got to take what you can get.
He looked back at the docks over his shoulder. The ship he had been planning on boarding had already set sail while he had been preoccupied, but he noticed the next boat bound for his destination had begun boarding as well. Not wanting to miss the chance to redeem his pass, he decided to forego returning to the Pokémon center and find a place to change clothes on the ship. He walked up to the back of the line and waited to board. Of course his antics had not gone unnoticed by the boarding crew or the other passengers, but he didn't care. He had accomplished his objective. To an ordinary Trainer, the rather unattractive and decidedly weak Feebas might not seem worth so much trouble, but that was only if they were unaware of its true potential.
...
Hana stepped out of the restroom in a fresh set of clothes, though his shoes and hair were still wet. He had wrung out his hair as best he could, but water still dripped from it onto his clothes from time to time. He stepped out onto the deck to dry out in the sun and looked out at the sea. He wondered how long it would take the ship to reach Wisteria City, the gateway to the island region of Touhoku. He had become interested in traveling to the Touhoku region upon hearing news of the new Pokémon League challenge that had recently been established there. He had been training Pokémon for a while, and had a few established partners with him encountered during his wanderings through different regions, but he had never taken a League challenge before. Seeing how the Touhoku League was a smaller one with only four Gyms, he figured it might make for an ideal starting point for him. And judging from the apparent increase in naval traffic heading in that direction, he figured quite a few other trainers had similar ideas as well. Even the ship he was on now had quite a few passengers. He tried to keep his distance from the crowds. Dealing with people was not something he considered his forte.
Starting to get restless and eager to have something to focus his mind on, Hana decided to work on outfitting his new Feebas for training. He sat down, opened his (fortunately waterproof standard issue) bag, and removed his laptop and his TM Case. He'd need all the help he could get from these babies if he wanted any hope of raising his new Feebas effectively, considering it only ever learns three moves. Well, more like two and a fifth, really. He launched his laptop's Pokémon encyclopedia software and pulled up the reference page on Feebas, then started sifting through his TMs for moves it could learn. Preferably offensive ones. No, wait, at this low level and such minimal stats, maybe a defensive one would help too. A short while later, he had decided on a quartet of Surf, Ice Beam, Dragon Pulse, and Protect to start out with. Hopefully, this should give it decent enough type coverage to be able to at least gain some combat experience against the local wild Pokémon of Touhoku. He set to work teaching Feebas the moves, also taking the time to confirm its ability and gender. Swift Swim, like all Feebas, and female. Lucky me, I guess, he thought to himself. Of course most of the time, there would be no need to worry about Pokémon's gender unless you were a breeder. But for Hana, it was more a matter of principle. He didn't like dealing with people in general, but he especially didn't like dealing with his own gender. If he had to talk to anyone, he'd very much prefer it to be a girl.
...
Feebas had its new moves. The final step was to outfit it with a Focus Sash. This, he figured, would at least help prevent Feebas from having its dismal 17 HP one-shotted by wild Pokémon before it could gain any experience at all. He returned Feebas to its Poké Ball, packed up his things, and stood up. To his surprise, the port city of Wisteria had come into full view before he knew it. A brief visual inspection of the area also revealed a number of ships entering, docked at, and leaving the harbor, many of them recognizably from different regions. The harbor itself was also quite crowded already. "Maybe quite a few more people than I imagined had similar ideas," he thought. This was certainly going to be an interesting way to start his Touhoku journey. Well, sure, wading through such a huge crowd of people would be less than pleasant, but he knew he'd get past that eventually. He couldn't wait to get out on the open Routes and start meeting and battling their wild Pokémon. He braced himself and prepared to disembark.

The sun was bright and warm, and anyone else would have though it was a beautiful day out. Especially with the approaching scenery, a gorgeous beach kissing the water. But not her. All she could think about was how much time she had just wasted.
No, June was NOT happy. It was bad enough someone close to her was missing. But she had traveled to two different regions now to find his daughter. TWO different regions! June could remember her father coming home from the gym that day; he had looked worried, and June had naturally inquired as to what the problem was.
Her father, Matsuba(Morty), had never been one to mix or waste words. "Dragon is missing."
Junes eyes had shot open; Dragon, missing? Her mind had gone back to when she and her father would journey to Sinno and visit him and his family, how she and Ryuu and Phoenix had played together. She remembered crossing the mountains, the peaks that had forever changed her life in ways not even her father knew about.
Matsuba had wanted to go, but Ecruteak City needed him; he was the gym leader, after all. And so June had packed up and left, taking the SS Anne to Sinno.
Upon arrival to her old friends ranch, however, it was revealed that Ryuu had left, searching for her father. After staying just long enough to catch up with Phoenix, June left again, this time destined for the Touhoku region, a place she had heard about from her father but never visited.
Which is what brought her here, to the beautiful beach and bright sun. June stepped out of her room and walked out onto the deck of the boat, waiting to dock. Her heavy combat- style boots clunked across the deck before reaching the very front of the boat, where she crossed her arms and leaned on the railing.
As always, the blonde portion of her hair was held in a ponytail off to the side, while her blue bangs slightly covered her similarly- colored eyes which had heavy bags underneath of them. From her right ear hung an antique- style black key, and in her coat pocket was a slightly larger- then average pocket mirror.
June felt a pressure in her hand and looked down to see her most loyal partner, her best and longest friend. The doll- like pokemon smiled up at her in a way that most might have found creepy.
"Hey, Voodoo." The Banette simply nodded in response before disappearing; probably off to spook some of the other passengers.
This had been an interesting trip, to say the least. One guy had boarded the ship at the last stop with soaking wet clothes and hair. Well, ok, that wasn't too weird. Still, the boy had gotten his fair share of odd looks.
Before long, though, the boat had docked an June and Voodoo were walking through he streets of Wisteria Town. It was small town, which June could appreciate. Ecruteak was small, although Wisteria certainly didn't possess Ecruteaks... Charm.
June realized pretty quickly that she hadn't really thought of what to do once shed reached this region. She glanced down at Voodoo, who was obviously waiting for her trainer to make a decision.
"I... Don't know what to do now."

Post by Theo on Apr 27, 2014 2:50:02 GMT
Theo kept his head low as he and his companion flew through the skies, keeping his eyes squinted so he could at least see where they were going. The massive Pidgeot that was his companion continued forward over the ocean, slicing through the air like a hot knife through butter. How long had they been flying like this? Three days? Four? More? He wasn't sure. Long enough for him to know that if he were to go back empty handed now, he would be shunned by those he once called friends and family. If he went back at all. But I'm getting ahead of myself here.
Spotting land coming into view, the Pidgeot would slow his advancing quite a bit, allowing Theo to finally sit up and stretch, giving a light nod when the bird pokemon called to him. “I see it” The island itself was massive, compared to his home island. Then again, almost anything was. This is where his journey would begin. So. . . where was the rush of emotions? Happiness. Excitement. Anticipation. None of those things were registering. Only drive. The drive to get his journey started. The drive to put the rumors to rest. The drive to prove her wrong. She had to be wrong. If she was right, then. . .
Theo shook his head, pushing the thoughts from his mind. He couldn't dwell on that right now. He needed to focus on the path before him, not the one he had already taken. Looking down, something interesting would catch his attention. It was a large canoe, made of a strange colored wood he had never seen before. At that time a large bellowing sound would come from the strange contraption, Theo covering his ears. “What in the name of Arceus is that?” He would ask the Pidgeot, who would look down at the cruise liner and call out before beginning to descend.
Theo and his Pidgeot would eventually come up next to the cruise liner, a couple of small children running over to one side of the ship and waving, Theo giving a faint smile and returning the wave. Such a monstrous boat must have taken years to build. Looking ahead, Theo would see the ports of the city, having a bit more of an idea of what they were for than this large sea vessel. Honestly, what purpose could a vessel of this size serve? “Looks like we can land there” He would say to the Pidgeot, who would call out again before taking off. Theo had just enough time to again look to the small children on the boat and give a small wave before he and his fully evolved companion took off again, landing on the shores of the island just a moment later.
Once they were safely on the shore, Theo would dismount the bird, the Pidgeot nudging him with its head. Theo would just smirk and rub the pokemon's head, shaking his own. “We've been over this. You can't come with me. Someone has to watch over the others back on the island. Since I can't do it anymore, the duty falls to you” The Pidgeot would coo softly before rubbing its head against Theo's cheek as Theo continued. “Besides. The young ones need someone to look up to. Like I did. We'll meet again, I promise. Now go to them. They need you” The Pidgeot would look to Theo for a long moment before giving a nod, Theo nodding as the Pidgeot would flap his wings once, and a second later be airborne. Looking down to his human friend, the Pidgeot would call out one last time, a loud and powerful Pidgeotoooooooooo before flying off, back in the direction the two had come from.
Theo would watch for just a second before tuning and heading up the beach towards the city, reaching into one of the pockets of his cargo shorts and producing a device he had only had the pleasure of operating a few times. An X-Transciever, given to him by his sister the last time she had come to the island. She was well aware of the situation Theo currently found himself in, and had made arrangements with the professor of this city to get him started on his journey. This Region, as it was for Theo, was the first Region she traveled in. Though, she came here for the contests. She did pretty good too, making it farther than she thought she would for a newbie, but ultimately didn't make it to the final conference.
Theo would send a quick message which simply said “Made it to the Region in one piece Jess. Here goes nothin” Literally. What awaited him down this path? There was only one way to find out. Heading into the city, Theo would pull up the map his sister had sent him over the X-Tranciever she had given him. It was fairly detailed on where he needed to go to get to the professor's lab from the docks. The docks that were in view, so following the directions wouldn't be too difficult.
In almost no time later Theo found himself approaching the very building marked on his map, pausing just long enough to watch a girl with an odd shade of green hair run in to the building as well. Another new trainer? Guess what his sister had told him was true. Almost anyone could be a trainer. Didn't the girl seem a little young to be starting her journey? It wasn't his place to say this aloud however. Instead he said nothing, making his way for the professor's and entering a moment later.
As soon as the automatic doors opened and a gush of air hit him Theo would flinch, taking a step back before looking towards the inside with a confused look on his face. A wind was blowing inside? How was that possible? He would shake his head, stepping forward again and entering the building. No time to think about the oddities of this new land. It was cool in the room he entered, Theo looking around for a moment. No one was here. Not even the green haired girl. Just where in the Reverse. . . No sooner had that thought been interrupted did Theo hear a voice coming from down one of the nearby halls. “Professor! It's me, Kai! I'm sorry I'm late, I over slept! Um, again... ” Again? Oversleeping was a natural part of her daily routine? What he wouldn't have given for that when he was her age.
Theo would turn and head towards the sound of the girl's voice, ccoming to stand near the girl before speaking as well. “Professor? This is Theo. My sister contacted you several days ago?” he would speak, to the still closed door if need be, before turning to look at the girl whom he had just mimicked and giving her a light nod. “Kai” How did he know her name? She had just yelled it, durrr!!

Ronny stepped off the boat with Ralts in his arms, Ponyta beside him. He smiled big and took a deep breath.
"Smell that Ponyta? That's the smell of adventure.....Time to make Maxi proud!"
Ponyta responded joyously, as did Ralts as he bounced up and down in Ronny's arms.
"Woah, easy there little buddy, I don't wanna drop ya now."
With that Ronny climbed up on Ponyta and proceeded to ride her through the town at a slow pace, so they didn't miss the lab.
"Sure were some strong looking trainers on that boat, huh guys? Can't wait to meet up with them and battle....except for that ghost trainer"
Ronny shivered at the thought of Ghost Pokemon.
"that girl should keep a better eye on her Pokemon...that Banette kept sneaking up on me and scaring me the whole trip...."
As they wandered through the town they happened upon the Ghost trainer again, Ronny shivered in fear and had Ponyta go the other way.
"I'm not scared of her...I just....don't want to embarrass her by giving her such an early defeat!"
Ronny laughed loudly to hide his fear, Ralts simply sighed in his arms, knowing full well that Ronny is scared of Ghosts

"Sir. Sir please wake up. We're clearing the ferry and you'll have to leave."
Yukito opened his eyes drearily. "Wuzzat? A furry what?" He blinked a couple times before snapping fully back to reality. It took him a moment to place the annoyed face in front of him as one of the workers on the ferry. He stood up hastily, stretching. "Sorry. My fault. Must have dozed off or something." He made to head off towards the exit, returning in just a few moments with a sheepish grin. "Forgot my bag." He stepped off the boat onto the dock, squinting in the bright sunshine.
He pulled out his cell phone and started scrolling, trying to find his pokeMap app. He was just about as disorganized digitally as he was physically. Finally, between a shortcut to an old email and a wallpaper application, he found it. Before clicking, he poked the email on his touchscreen, and up popped a note that made him smile.
Typically, trainers started off on their journeys rather young. 10 or 11 was the average. At 19 years of age, Yukito was certainly behind. Sadly, a need to care for his terminal mother had erased all thoughts of leaving 9 years ago. After she passed, his father kept him busy with political things. Attending fundraisers, answering questions, the works. After his father retired, Yuki found his time eaten up yet again in pursuit of a higher education. He was preparing to go off to class that day, when he heard a news report. Something about an island finally being approved for a system of Pokemon Gym Leaders.
Like all major life decisions, Yuki decided it in the most well thought out and careful way. He flipped a coin. It landed on tails, and he found himself withdrawing from his classes that day and booking a ferry ticket to the island. The email that had sparked the memory was a short one, wishing him the best of luck. Yuki stretched and shouldered the memories, opening up the map to figure out where he had to go. He had a rather bad habit of walking while using his device, and didn't always pay attention while doing so. He ended up nearly stepping onto a girl's toes, (though by the look of those combat boots, she wouldn't have felt it.)
"Er, sorry. Completely my fault, wasn't watching where I was going."
He offered her and the Bannete by her side a wary smile. He hoped she wouldn't be displeased, noting how inconvenient it would be if she were to punch him in the nose.

"Can you at least tell me how you came across that Manaphy?" the Professor begged, starry-eyed.
Ryuu couldn't help but flash a sheepish smile. Typical Pokemon Professor. She remembered the first time she met Professor Rowan. He had been absolutely fascinated by Manaphy. Ryuu began to tell the story when a voice caught her attention.
"Professor! It's me, Kai! I'm sorry I'm late, I over slept! Um, again..."
It was time to go, that was for sure. Ryuu heard the voice at the door and she wasn't about to risk any of them spotting the blue bundle sleeping in her arms. She gently placed the pokemon back in her bag and zipped it closed, leaving only the slightest bit unzipped so that Manaphy wouldn't suffocate. She barely had the time to compose herself before Professor Elana opened the office door, all smiles and carefreeness. Ryuu had to wonder where the good Professor got her cheerfulness.
The two at the door were a young girl and a boy around Ryuu's age....give or take a year or two. The girl looked way too young to be here. She threw the Professor a look.
"Are you sure she's ten?" Ryuu asked with a grin.
"Eleven, actually," Professor Elana corrected.
"Huh....kinda tiny. Cute, though."
"You'll need to learn to set an alarm on your X-transciever, Kai," the Professor lectured with a smile, "...or you'll find yourself sleeping through a Mamoswine stampede."
Ryuu covered her mouth to hide the snicker. She couldn't help but picture that little girl sleeping while a herd of Mamoswine ran over her, not once stepping on her. It was completely cartoon-worthy. The boy spoke and Ryuu grinned more. Theo, huh? She'd have to remember the names of these two.
"Ah, yes. Jess told me all about you, Theo. I believe we're waiting on one or two more young ones, but I suppose we can start and I'll catch them up when they arrive," the Professor stated.
Ryuu tilted her head. She'd never gotten the Professor's big speech before, even back in Sinnoh. Her father had given her her first Pokemon and her pokedex. No Professor needed....but Ryuu's dad was a Gymleader, so he could get away with that stuff.
"Now, before I introduce you all to your Pokemon, I'd like to explain a few things. Pokemon are not tools, they are not toys. These are living creatures that you MUST be responsible for. Love and friendship are just as important as food and water. If your Pokemon doesn't trust you, they won't do what you ask." She picked up two red objects from the nearby desk. "These are your Pokedexes. Think of them as a sort of Pokemon Encyclopedia. They'll update whenever you see a new Pokemon, and when you catch a new Pokemon, more information will be yeilded. Study them well, and you'll know where every Pokemon in the Region is located."

It was impossible not to see the excitement emanating from the tiny girl, even as she simply waited for an answer. The voice behind her caused her to turn, having not noticed the other individual walk up behind her.
He was tanned, obviously much older then she was. She had never seen him before, but that wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Even though Wisteria was a small town, the constant flow of trainers made it so new faces were constantly popping up.
After he, too, spoke to the Professor through her door, he acknowledged the much smaller girl with a nod and her name. Immediately a splitting smile appeared on her face as she turned to face him.
"Hello!" She said, her voice only adding to her young appearance. "You said your name is Theo, right? Nice to meet you!"
Before she could say more the door to the Professors office opened. There was the Prof. Herself, along with another girl who, for some reason, seemed vaguely familiar to Kai. She had seen her before, she was sure, but where...?
She just couldn't put her finger on it. And she was quickly distracted by said girl making a comment about her age. Elana jokingly responded, confirming that Kai was indeed of an appropriate age to be a trainer.
Eyebrows furrowed in annoyance, Kai turned to the girl. "I'm not that small! I-"
And then she remembered. She had seen this girl on a television program before, a show following a Coordinating tournament (her mom and sister liked those shows). Her name was... Was...
"Ryuu Brinestein!" She cried, clasping her hands together. "I've seen you on TV! I'm Kai, it's nice to meet you!"
Kai's cheeks turned pink as Professor Elana playfully teased her. "I just like sleeping I all..." She said. "And Mama made cake last night, so I kinda stayed up a bit later. Y'know, so I could... Eat it."
Despite her energetic and eager nature Kai listened closely as the Professor began to speak. Her eyes shone bright and her smile was dazzling with excitement, which only grew with every word. "Don't you worry, Professor! I'm gonna love my Pokemon and it's gonna love me and were gonna be the best team ever!"
The child struck a pose with one hand on her hip and the other up in a fist, almost like a sign of victory. Then she reached forward and eagerly opened the Pokedex. "This is so cool!" She slipped the device into a pocket on her dress, reminding herself to put it in her backpack later.

Hana gazed out over Wisteria Town. It felt almost small enough that the whole town could be seen from the harbor. Still, he was unable to definitively identify his first destination: the Pokémon Center for a quick checkup. He removed his PokéGear from his bag and scanned for a wireless network over which he could hopefully download the Touhoku region's Town Map. A few moments of waiting revealed no networks in the immediate vicinity; he was afraid of that. "Looks like I'm going to have to find my own way to the Pokémon Center after all," he muttered to himself. All right, time for Plan B. He looked around for any billboards bearing a map of the town that might be in place to welcome tourists, but no such luck. He was highly reluctant to try asking anyone for directions; after all, he had no way of knowing for sure whether anyone around him was a local rather than another tourist, or whether they would be trustworthy or even willing to talk to him. He eventually decided that the town was probably small enough that it wouldn't take too long to find the Center just by walking around; it would be a good way to get a feel for the town too. With his mind made up, he put his PokéGear away and started walking. The more Hana explored the town, the more he got the feeling it really wasn't anything to write home about. The streets were sparsely lined with some small residences here and some small shops and kiosks there, as if available real estate was being haphazardly used up one lot at a time. Hana wondered about the history of the town; perhaps with the limited availability of resources in an island region like Touhoku, construction would have been governed more by necessity than anything else. At last, he came to a clearing featuring the largest building he had yet seen in the town, which was labeled as a Pokémon Lab. Through the giant windows, he could make out the figures a short woman in a lab coat and a few younger - very younger in one case - people inside, seemingly engaged in lively conversation. The Pokémon Professor and some new trainers, perhaps? he wondered. He had no business at the lab himself, however. He had gotten his start as a Trainer years ago in Unova, and his Unova-issue Pokédex was already the latest national version. He made a mental note that he might want to drop by again later, as it might be a good idea to pay his respects to the local Professor. But certainly not right now, with so many people around. ... A short while later, Hana finally arrived at the Pokémon Center. Overjoyed that he was able to find it without help, he swiftly leapt into action. He left his Pokémon with the Nurse, then sat in a far corner of the waiting room. His plan was to start looking over the Town Map while he waited for his Pokémon. He took out his PokéGear once again, and this time he was able to find a network and connect to it. He searched for the Touhoku Town Map application and downloaded it, though it took a few minutes to finish. Unfortunately, it was laid out like most other Town Map applications; an annotation-free overview of the entire region with various colored shapes representing cities, towns, and routes, with no information other than their names available until you zoomed in on them. Touhoku may have been an island region, but it was a pretty decent-sized one, that was for sure. Being completely unfamiliar with the region, Hana wasn't even sure where to begin looking or what information he should try to memorize. He decided to start reading up on Wisteria Town itself and its surroundings. The Pokémon Lab he had passed earlier seemed to be the most prominent feature of the Wisteria map, being billed as the starting point for local new trainers and the Touhoku League. The name of the presiding professor intrigued him: Wilhelmina Elana. "Wilhelmina, huh...that's a name you don't see everyday." Hana wondered what kind of person she must be. As for Gyms...there was none in Wisteria, it seemed. The locations of the four Gyms would be helpful to know, but Hana didn't have a clue where to start looking for them. As he started to worry about finding out which one was closest or which one was recommended as the first Gym, it suddenly struck him that the Touhoku League must have a guide book of some sort that could be downloaded separately. With a quick search, he located a digital copy and downloaded it. While waiting for the download to finish, he went back to the Town Map and ascertained the closest Route to the Center: Route 1. As good a place as any to start looking for wild Pokémon, he figured. He was just about to check the status of the guide book download again when his PokéGear chimed at him in five familiar tones: B, B, B-G#-E. He smiled. His Pokémon's checkups were complete. He walked up to the counter and retrieved his Pokémon from the Nurse, taking care to thank her politely. He then stepped outside and summoned his Pokémon from their Poké Balls to look over them himself. Five loyal and reliable companions, plus one new friend. He spoke up: "Everyone, this is Feebas, the Fish Pokémon. She'll be working with us starting today. She's new to this, so you all be sure to get along with her and help her out." The rest of his team turned to face their new partner, curious and excited. Hana introduced each of them to Feebas in turn. Servine, the Grass Snake Pokémon, his starter from Unova. Pawniard, the Sharp Blade Pokémon and Tynamo, the EleFish Pokémon, caught in Unova. Ponyta, the Fire Horse Pokémon, the only Pokémon he took with him from Kanto. And finally, Relicanth, the Longevity Pokémon, acquired in Hoenn. Feebas pledged her support and approval with an enthusiastic flop. Hana let out a deeply contented sigh. These were the trusted partners he would be starting his first League challenge with. His team's strength was still a work in progress, but he considered them well-balanced. He liked to do his best to maintain a team with as many different Types of attacks as possible so that he'd always have at least one Pokémon that could score a Super Effective hit against any opponent, no matter its Type. Of course, he still needed to find out which Gym he should head for first and where it was...but that could wait. He wanted to get out onto a Route and start training his team.

Planning had never been Junes strong suit. She was an individual of action, doing what needed to be done and thinking about it later. Unfortunately, this sometimes tended to cause small issues. Like now.
Here she was, in a strange new region, looking for a girl who could literally be anywhere. Where was she even suppossed to start looking? June had Ryuus number saved in her X- Transceiver but the machine had died on the boat. She awkwardly looked around, wondering what her next step should be.
"I guess... The Pokemon center would be a good first step." Voodoo merely smiled, coaxing a small smile out of June as well. She and the Pokemon had been together for so long they could kind of feed off each other's emotions, and their smiles were often simultaneous. Their personalities were vastly different, and it really seemed like they evened each other out.
That smile, however, quickly vanished as a boy proceeded to very nearly step on her. "Hey, watch where you're going!" She snapped, resisting the urge the push the boy away from her. June wasn't a people person. At all. Her naturally avoidant personality combined with the fact that shed been raised in a gym, often kept to busy to socialize, didn't make for a good combination. Add that to the fact that she specialized in Ghosts, possibly the most misunderstood Pokemon type... Well, it's easy to see how social interaction wasn't her forte.
"It's fine." She muttered in response to the apology. She turned to examine the boy, as he offered a smile to her and her partner. White hair, kinda fancy clothes. Not someone June would normally associate with. Then again, June honestly didn't associate with very many people at all, and therefore had very few actual "friends".
Voodoo cocked her head to the side, smiling wider then usual back at the boy. Apparently, she liked him. Voodoo was much more social then her trainer. June resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
Now what? She had decided to go to the Pokemon center, but she had no idea where it was and no clue what to do afterwards.
"Where... Are you going?" June asked, obviously not used to actually interacting with people. "I don't really know my way around here." Asking for help was a blow to Junes pride, but she really didn't have much of an option. She had to find Ryuu, and as quickly as possible.

It was impossible not to see the excitement brimming from the young girl that was, in the matter of being a pokemon trainer, his equal. He couldn't help but give a faint smile. She reminded him of one of the young ones back on the island. When asked his name Theo would nod a light nod to the younger up and coming trainer. "And you, miss Kai" Theo would offer a hand to the younger girl, looking to the door when it opened. Out stepped two women. One dressed in what even Theo could guess was a lab coat, and the other a girl that was around his age. Maybe a year or two difference between them. Like he had done with Kai, Theo would give a nod to the two, looking between the professor and Kai when the Mamoswine stampede was mentioned. What. . . was a Mamoswine? Well, lets break that down. Mamo. No clue with that one. Swine, that was easy. A type of pig. So a huge pig? He could imagine it now. A herd of extra large Grumpig rampaging down one of the mountains of his home island.
Theo would turn his attention to the elder woman when she spoke, her words only confirming his suspicions that she was the professor. He would nod, looking to Kai when she said she wasn't that small. "I've caught fish bigger than you" It was true. It wasn't an easy fight, reeling in fish that size, but he had done it in the past. His family ate well those nights. Theo would raise an eyebrow when Kai clasped her hands together and called the other girl's name, turning his attention to her. "T. . .V?" he asked aloud without realizing it, tilting his head to the side. What was this TV Kai had spoken of? Theo would pull himself from his curiosity when the professor began to speak, giving a nod to her words.
"I am aware of this, professor. In my village, we work alongside the pokemon of our elders to make all our lives easier. Our Fire pokemon warm our homes at night and help us cook our meals. Our Grass pokemon help tend the fields. We sometimes even help the wild pokemon that surround our village, and they in turn help us" It sounded like they were a very self sufficient village. Why would anyone want to leave a life like that? It was easy, when you wanted more out of life than to survive. When the pokedex was offered Theo would accept it, opening it and pushing a few buttons. "What a strange little device" He would mutter, turning it over in his hand for a second before righting it, pushing a few more buttons. He had a lot of questions. How did it work? What powered it? How did it know so much about pokemon? And how could he find out about this pokemon called Mamoswine?

As Ronny approaches the lab he sees a group of people standing out front, it was a few of the trainers from the boat. He dismounts Ponyta and walks over. He politely smiles at everyone "Hello everyone, forgive my interruption. My name is Ronny Mask, I'm here to see Professor....um....I forget the name.....Elana??? Is she here?" Ralts starts squirming in his arms a bit when he sees the little girl, Ronny smiles, knowing how similar to a child Ralts is. Ronny places Ralts down and watches him approach the little girl, he smiles at her and presents his hand, looking for a hand shake. "You'll have to forgive Ralts, he likes meeting new people."

After pausing to make sure she wasn't going to knock him out while his guard was down, Yuki kneeled and returned Bannete's grin. "Well hello there. Aren't you cute. In an odd sort of way." He reached out a hand to pet the ghost pokemon, but then withdrew it, realizing how stupid he'd appear if he reached out just to have his hand sink straight through the pokemon. He tried to nonchalantly turn his gesture into a stretch, a move so smooth, it would only have fooled a blind man.
He stood up hastily and coughed. "Good good, I believe accidentally pissing someone off in the first five minutes of being somewhere new would be a record for me. " With a shrug he added. "I run into lots of people. Don't take it personally."
Yuki raised an eyebrow and looked back at his digital map. "Don't feel bad, I don't know my way around either. But my map is pretty useful. I was off to the Pokemon lab. Professor Eleanor? Ella? Elias? I'm bad with names. Though now that I think of it, I'm fairly certain it was Professor Eugene. Mine's Yukito by the way. My name that is. " Yuki bit his lip, reminding himself to stop spewing word vomit at strangers. He nonchalantly coughed again.
"But yeah, I applied to be a starter trainer. I heard that to bring in trainers to the new tournament, they were giving away a Pokemon to potential trainers. I was one of the ones selected, so here I be." He shrugged. "You can follow me. Or do what you want. I'm not a cop." He checked his pocketwatch, and sighed. "Late again. Punctuality isn't my strong suit. " He adjusted his tie and set off, calling back. "Hey! If you don't end up coming with, it was nice meeting you!" He kept walking rather briskly, believing she wouldn't want to follow him after he had trampled her feet. Not to mention that fact that he was redefining the term fashionably late with every step. Thankfully, the lab wasn't far. He could see the double doors before checking back to see if she had followed.

The girl seemed to recognize her, which made Ryuu blush a little. She was used to the fans in Sinnoh and Hoenn...but she only placed fourth the last time she competed here, the year before she won the Sinnoh Grand Finale. She didn't expect anyone here to know who she was. Still, it was nice to know she had a fan or two. Maybe this contest run would be different.
"That's me," she replied to the girl. When the doors opened and another boy stepped in Ryuu watched him a moment. A Ralts and a Ponyta were trailing behind him. Ponyta....she felt the slightest twinge of homesickness. She missed riding her Rapidash back on the ranch....the wind through her hair.
The Professor looked toward the doorway as well and smiled. "Ronny! I just spoke with your father last night. I'll make sure to call him again tonight and let him know you made it here safely." She beckoned him over to join the others standing in front of her. "Has your Pokedex been updated, Ronny? If not, I can do that for you before you leave." She looked toward the doorway. "We're still waiting on one more person and then I'll introduce you to the pokemon available. For now, let me explain the elements of capturing a Pokemon," she picked up a pokeball from the desk.
"When you battle a Pokemon, in order to catch it, you must weaken it. Now, I know it seems a little cruel, but this helps the Pokemon understand that you're serious. You throw the ball and if you've weakened them enough, they'll be caught....but don't think that's the end of it. The Pokemon will have to trust you if you want them to listen to you. That's why you don't just knock out a Pokemon you want to catch. Right, Ryuu?" The Professor smiled at Ryuu.
"That's right," Ryuu responded, "...your team's strength depends on how much they trust and understand you. Would YOU want to battle for a person who didn't care what you wanted and caught you while you were unconscious? I sure wouldn't."
"You can buy more Pokeballs in the Pokemon Center's Pokemart. I'll give you each ten to start with, though," the Professor continued as she handed out the Pokeballs. "The last thing I'd like you to remember before you meet your first Pokemon.....is that this journey will be difficult at times....but trust in the Pokemon you've befriended and you'll be fine. It's not just about earning gym badged or winning contest ribbons. This journey will help you grow as a person, as well. I expect all of you will be mature young men and women when I next see you."
